DeHart Park Opening Event in Kelowna – May 3, 2025
Kelowna residents are invited to celebrate the grand opening of DeHart Park on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon at 687 DeHart Road. This exciting event marks the official debut of one of Kelowna’s newest and most versatile community parks, designed to offer recreational fun and natural beauty for all ages.
What to Expect at the Opening Event
The opening celebration promises a fun-filled, family-friendly atmosphere with a variety of free activities and opportunities to explore the park’s many amenities:
- Park & Play Activities:
Enjoy recreational setups including inflatables (weather permitting), lawn games, and sports equipment for basketball, ping pong, and foosball in the new games area and basketball court. - Explore the Park’s Features:
Attendees can experience the park’s extensive amenities, such as: - Four pickleball courts and a basketball court
- Multi-use field and outdoor fitness equipment
- Adventure playground and children’s water play area
- Skate feature and pump track (note: pump track fencing and landscaping are still in progress)
- Walking loop and picnic areas with tables and seating
- Fenced dog run and relocated community garden
- Natural Spaces:
The park preserves mature pine, fir, and cottonwood trees while adding a pollinator and dryland meadow. Over 250 new trees and thousands of bulbs, grasses, shrubs, and perennials have been planted to enhance the natural environment. - Accessibility & Transportation:
The park includes infrastructure improvements for vehicle, transit, cycling, and pedestrian access. Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, or take transit to the event to support sustainable transportation.
What’s Still to Come
While the park is officially opening, some elements will be completed later in 2025:
- Construction of park washrooms is scheduled for summer and fall.
- Final fencing, irrigation, and landscaping of the pump track will be completed before it opens to the public.
- Newly seeded and planted areas are fenced off to allow proper growth, and the public’s cooperation in respecting these areas is appreciated.
A $8.6 Million Investment in Community Recreation
DeHart Park is part of Kelowna’s ongoing commitment to expanding and improving community green spaces. The $8.6 million project reflects the city’s dedication to providing diverse recreational opportunities and preserving natural habitats for residents to enjoy.
